3rd grade starts tomorrow

Ok, the sun was too bright (nice shadow there!) so he had a silly smile. But I wanted comparison for last year. Granted, he's not standing in the exact same spot, but he is taller than the doorbell is high now.
I made him do it over to get a better smile.

First day of school and misc

Yes, the first day of school was two weeks ago. Things have been a little busy.

The motley crew preparing to walk. Molly's in her stroller next to me.

Waiting to go in the building.

Typical night around here.

Ready for a party, foot decorations and all.

First week of school

Ready!
Well, we made it through the first (partial) week of first grade. I need a nap.

Waiting in line to go in the first day (when he had to schlep in all of his supplies).
Every day when asked Leo said "Today was a total flop." But when asked for specifics about what he did he had all sorts of interesting things to relate--from new friends and a mystery investigated during recess, to drama class, to his own book box.

I think he'll be fine.

Twas the night before first grade

Rather than scramble to get a traditional first-morning of school shot, I thought we'd try a night-before approach. So here is Leo standing next to the corn in the field near our house.

I didn't think to make a "First Grade 2011" sign,  so this will have to do.

Kindergarten graduation

We were able to send Leo to kindergarten for Spring semester and he had no problem catching/ keeping up with his friends after a semester at home with his Papa.

Yesterday was their graduation (I know, I don't really understand this trend either--graduation for practically every grade-level).

The best shot I could get--my camera did not like the lighting in that room!

Cap toss!

Your real diploma is in the mail

Touch-a-truck

Last week Molly and I joined Leo's class at the annual Touch-a-Truck event. It was a zoo. Every kid wanted to go on every truck and honk every horn. And it was hot even though it was in the morning.

In the ambulance

Waiting for ice cream

Monster truck tire

In his beloved race car

Boogie-ing with his boys--not a smile in sight.

Leo was the only one who didn't want a sprite--he doesn't like soda! His teacher Ms Ayanna is holding the clipboard and Ms Cassie is on the right.

Waiting to join the fray. They got to ride the little buses the 1-2 miles from their school. Ms Kristen, the principal of Chesterbrook is on the right. She's expecting a little boy.

Secret agent boy

Well, not really, but sometimes we get pictures of Leo from school and we say "Oh, so that's what you do all day at school," like it's some kind of mystery.

Here are two we got this week. They were painting with shaving cream, I think. It's funny when your preschooler comes home smelling like a man and he doesn't shave yet!

Status update and new glasses

Well, today was much better--less crying this morning about wanting to stay home and an easier dropoff. When we picked him up Leo only complained minimally about not wanting to come home. He seems glued to Tyler's side, and I wonder if he plays with his other friends like Daniel and Sophie or not.

Also, I got my new glasses, hear are two pics I took in my office this moring (I was still cold, that's why I didn't take my coat off yet):

Progress

So, today Leo had a similar meltdown about going to school, but again when we went to pick him up he didn't want to leave. He cried all the way home because he said he wanted to stay at his "work" all day and all night. There's lots of things he wants "all day" or "all night" or "for ever and ever" lately.

Milestones

Well, despite the wailing and gnashing of teeth (and I'm not being figurative) about going back to school today, Leo had a great day. And, he spent it all in room 7. Yup, he's officially an "Intermediate" now, no more "Beginnner." He did not want to come home, he was having too much fun.

He's also started using "ma'am" and "sir," which sounds really funny coming from a 3-year old.

Mom's Christmas box arrived today--Leo is enjoying the Lincoln logs and Ants in the Pants already.
