5 months, a few days late

Dear Molly,

You turned 5 months old on Friday, but this weekend has been so busy that we haven't had time to write about it.

Perhaps the highlight of the month was meeting your aunt, uncle, and cousin. Like everybody else in the family, they absolutely adore you.

For a long time, you were doing very well at sleeping through the night. In the last week or so, however, you have started waking up very, very early again. We've thought it might be a growth spurt, but your appetite is only inconsistently larger.

We've also started just occasionally feeding you some cereal. You don't seem to be sure what you think, since it usually just comes right back out. We'll keep trying, and a little more often now that you're a bit older, and see what comes around. (I seem to remember that your brother didn't like rice cereal all that much either. Other grains went much, much better.)

You've become quite proficient at your favorite variety of rolling, to the point where you've rolled over at the end of a nap as often as not. Your mama thinks that you take after her and sleep on your side, although I'm not so sure yet.

You continue to be one of the world's easiest babies, a smiley, happy girl most of the time.

We love you,

Mama & Papa.

This and that

Leo getting creative with spelling, since he only had one F. I was trying to tell him he could just do Jeph, but he didn't buy it.

Molly likes sitting with us at the table now if she's awake while we're eating. She's started making chewing motions with her mouth while she watches.

Growing Up

Molly tried rice cereal for the first time today--the jury's still out on it.

A rare moment of not hating tummy time.

Summer fun

It's still hot as blazes here, but not quite as bad today. Leo asked us to buy some shaving cream while we were at Target today so he could play with it like they do at school. So, we headed outside and he had a blast.

On a totally unrelated note, at breakfast this morning Leo got his own vitamin out. When I asked him how he had done that, he looked at me like I was a tad slow and said, "I pushed and turned, see, that's what it says on the cap."

Memaw and Bebop were here for a 24hr visit and during that time we dusted off the croquet set that Steve brought last weekend.

Leo giving a concert on his Lincoln Log "xylophone." He was singing along (and I use the term "along" loosely here) to "Here Comes Science" by They Might Be Giants.

That reminds me, earlier this week, Leo was walking around wearing Jeff's plastic lab goggles and told me very seriously that he was "looking for science."

A little birdie told me

1. Leo: Mom! I there's a fly, I need the fly swapper!

2.. When Molly started crying after Leo started playing his little keyboard, he started pouting. When I asked why, he said, "I must be terrible."

Sunshine

Ominous rainbow

Last Wednesday night Jeff had taken Leo to his last swim lesson for the summer. He starts again in September and gets to move up to the next level. Molly was having a hard time admitting that she was super tired. She cried almost the whole time they were gone. During that time the weather got weird. At one point I went out to see if the sky was indeed green as it appeared from the window. Part of the sky was dark clouds, part had a green cast, part was orange with the sunset. And then there was this
