Happy 2 months Molly!
Dear Molly,Happy 2 month birthday! (a little late, I know). You are growing steadily (10lbs 7 ozs (43rd%), 21 1/2in (25th%)) and are a happy girl. You are still sleeping well, giving us a nice long stretch in the evening/night, and meaning we only have to get up once in the middle of the night to feed you. You are still spitting up, but it's not too bad.

You are mostly a very calm girl and love to smile. You're even starting to make sounds that sound like laughing and cooing. Your brother loves this and often tries to make you smile. You love floor time and even tummy time--something your brother did not like!

You are very beautiful (not that we're biased!) and the camera just doesn't do justice to your lovely coloring, soft skin, and reddish hair.
You can hold your head up and put weight on your feet when standing on my lap. You are more alert and don't sleep quite as much during the day. Luckily you've seemed to know your nights from your days from the beginning.
We love you, Mama, Papa, and Leo

Touch-a-truck
Last week Molly and I joined Leo's class at the annual Touch-a-Truck event. It was a zoo. Every kid wanted to go on every truck and honk every horn. And it was hot even though it was in the morning.

In the ambulance

Waiting for ice cream

Monster truck tire

In his beloved race car

Boogie-ing with his boys--not a smile in sight.

Leo was the only one who didn't want a sprite--he doesn't like soda! His teacher Ms Ayanna is holding the clipboard and Ms Cassie is on the right.

Waiting to join the fray. They got to ride the little buses the 1-2 miles from their school. Ms Kristen, the principal of Chesterbrook is on the right. She's expecting a little boy.

Everyday life
awww...
K: Leo, what are baby cows called?
L: Calves.
K: What are baby horses called?
L: Colts. [Or foals I guess-K]
K: What are baby babies called?
L: Honeys.
K: Is Molly a honey?
L: Yes, and so am I. And she's a little Miss Munchkin too.

Don't judge a book...
While menu planning this weekend I was trying to get Leo's input on meals, hoping that would encourage him to eat what we were having more often.
Leo, what should we make for dinner next week?
Why ask me? Ask a cookbook!

All over the world....
...babies spend the most hours crying between six and eight weeks of age. Molly is now almost seven weeks old. These are the premises of a syllogism; I'll let you draw the conclusion. (This also explains why there hasn't been much of interest posted lately.)
Kirstin finally put up the wall decal that helps complete the bird motif in the nursery. (Since she's still sleeping in the bassinet in our room, I hesitate to call it Molly's room yet.)
Can you spot the baby?

You don't say?
Some Leo-isms from the last few days:
While having a squirt gun fight with Aunt LauraLynn: "Stop watering me!"
While watching me wrap meat to put in the freezer: "Are we going to mail that?"
After I told him that I had bought a particular pair of earrings a long time ago: "When dinosaurs were alive?"
After being told that he couldn't watch TV: "We need some middle of the imagination pyramid."*
*Jeff has devised an imagination pyramid, that like the food pyramid, helps Leo understand how to prioritize his fun-time activities.
Edit from Jeff: TV, computer time, and movies, like fats and sweets, are at the top of the imagination pyramid -- ideally things not consumed every day, and in limited amounts. Reading or listening to stories sit at the bottom, by providing an idea foundation for other creative works. General play with toys falls here, too. Dramatic play and crafty projects, including writing your own stories, coloring, Play-doh(TM), and so on, are the middle tier -- not the majority of your time, but much more than things with screens. it's about the best explanation I can come up with without trying to create a drawing of it (which, for those who know my art skills, would be pretty frightening).
