6 months old!

Dear Leo,

Today you turned six months old. Where has the time gone? What happened to the little baby boy who slept most of the time (while usually holding onto his ears), cried so hard he snorted when he was hungry, who didn't make too many sounds other than crying (and snorting), who comfortably fit on our laps for napping, who wasn't too heavy to carry in or out of his carseat?

"Achoo! It must be all of the perfume inserts in this magazine!" (no--we didn't give him any of those!)

That baby has turned into a 'big boy' who smiles and chatters a lot, still cries only when hungry, very wet, or tired (but rarely snorts), who doesn't like to nap much on most days but who sleeps the whole night through (not holding his ears), is laughing and starting to giggle, who is getting so big he wiggles off of our laps and is almost too heavy to carry in his car seat.

"Mama, I know I can get the whole thing in my mouth, I just know I can!"

As mentioned in earlier posts, this month you are rolling over, playing with your feet, experimenting with solid food (the jury is still out on that one), almost ready to sit unassisted, and generally being a happy boy. You love the ladies at daycare and miss them if they are out for a day; they compete over which of them they think you like best. You are interacting with the other babies and can't wait to play on the mat with the others when we arrive in the morning. You are no longer the youngest baby in the room and are facsinated with the little girls, especially Emma and Elliana.

"I'm so charming I could charm the pants off of a Scotsman!"

You rub your eyes in the cutest way when you are tired, and you love to go to bed at night (99.9% of the time, unless you are already overtired, then you fuss). Most mornings you are waking up (too early) and happily amusing yourself (playing with your feet, etc) while chatting away in your crib until we come get you at a more reasonable hour. Speaking of chatting, you have been testing all sorts of sounds--this week your favorite is "eh"--trying to figure out what this language thing is all about.

One of your favorite things to play with is paper--we often give you catalog or magazine pages to play with (being careful to find ones that aren't likely to give paper cuts)--but we have to watch carefully, because like everything else you love to put it in your mouth. You love other toys that make noise too-Mr. Ribbits is still a favorite. You are starting to realize that things exist even when you can't see them and soon peekaboo will be a staple around here.

"More pictures!?!"

You've now met six of your seven grandparents, three of your four aunts and uncles, been to several parties (including a recent baby shower), and generally like to be social. You enjoy being outside and studying your surroundings. We are researching which carseat to get for you next and we will miss the little infant seat that we could carry you around in.

We miss the little baby you were, but we are looking forward to the big boy you are becoming.

Love,
Mama and Papa
