4 months old

Dear Leo,

Today you are four months old (already!). Mama just got back from her week-long trip and was _soooo_ happy to see you she scooped you right up out of your carseat at the airport because she couldn't wait until we got home.

You are one smiley, happy baby and you coo and drool a lot. You "talk" to your mama and papa and your friends at daycare all day long. You are more or less sleeping through the night, although we still have to feed you between 10-11pm and you usually need at least one diaper change--but you can get to sleep quickly most of the time.

Another change--you no longer cry during diaper changes. We were never really sure why, but you used to cry mightily during diaper changes, and at some point recently you have become fairly blase about them. Often you even seem to enjoy the chance to have a "captive" audience and you smile at us (from behind the hand you have shoved in your mouth).

Your hands frequently find their way into your mouth, and we are starting to wonder if possibly you are thinking about maybe starting to teethe. We can see what looks like two bottom teeth preparing to make an appearance some time in the not too distant future.

You are coordinated enough to be able to reach for your pacifier and take it out of your mouth with your hand and hold onto it like you're saving it for later, but you have yet to figure out how to get it back in your mouth. (Honestly I think that once you take it out you forget that you are hanging onto it.)

You smile when you see people you like and when anyone looks at you and smiles at you first. You are delightful. You still don't have the hang of laughing, but I know that some day soon you will burst into giggles at some silly thing mama or papa says. There are certainly enough of those to provoke fits of laughter!

This month hasn't brought a lot of new behaviors-for the most part you continue to do the things you do well--hold your head up, put weight on your feet. You are starting to enjoy tummy time if we put a pillow under you. You like to splash in your bath. You haven't shown any inclination to roll over, but soon enough you will be doing that too.

Im glad that he is enjoying getting his diaper changed - I see a couple of years of this in his future.
